Is there an easy way to install/clone oracle software in a second
ORACLE_HOME so that it mirrors the options selected from the first install?
The installed software listing is pretty messy so can you generate a
template for silent install from OUI. Can you clone the oraInventory? This
is 817 running on RedHat.
Copy won't work. If you try to copy the ORACLE_HOME from say an 8170 directory to 8172, you can bring up an instance using 8172 as ORACLE_HOME. But if you try to apply the 8172 patch to the 8172 directory, you will get the following:
# The patch Oracle8i Server Patch 8.1.7.2.0 is not selected for installation
because the base component is not in the staging area and in the install
inventory
.
# The patch oracle.rdbms 8.1.7.2.0 which is part of patch set Oracle 8i
Patch Set 8.1.7.2.0 is not selected for installation.
Thus stating that for OUI to work, the install must happen via OUI for the install information to be in the install inventory.
