Thanks for this George. Interesting reading.

FWIW my idea was not that the 'elite' should have their own special newsgroup, but to try to reduce some of the 'How do I get certified in 2 hours?' and 'Is OCP a recognised qualification?' type traffic from misc.

However given that the original intention (as I read it) in '96 was to allocate dba type stuff to server, developer type stuff to tools,jobs to marketplace and other stuff to misc - and that by and large this has not happened (with the notable exception of marketplace) I guess I'll just withdraw my suggestion.
