Google groups have the news archives back up. See the discussions in the second half on 1996 when we debated the original split of comp.databases.oracle

The "yes" voters mostly agreed that X-posting would not be a problem.

Anyone else want to say "I told you[1] so!"?

Mostly, the split has been good; esp the "marketplace" group, but I cant agree that cross posting is minimal in the "new" structure.

[1] Not you in particular, the generic "you" who voted "yes".
