newbie sqlplus ques: big tables crunched in sql window - hard to read

in the command line window for sql+, if i select * to view a complete table, then the table will appear as being very unreadable probably beacuse the table is horizontally long and the sql+ window is pretty basic and does nothing to format the output, it just gets wrapped to the window and crunched in.

is there a way to tell sql+ to fomat it, maybe not to wrap, ...anything to view the table better (besides using oracle navigator),

how is this usally done/handled??

i'm using personal oracle 7 on a win 95 machine.
