Eugen:

I think we are looking at 2 databases with independent data files on the same machine.

I followed the instructions that you pointed me to. I duplicated the initorcl.ora into initxxxx.ora.

The instruction then pointed me to startup the instance by using one of the menu in server manager. The problem is, the svrmgr that I used is text-based (Oracle 7.3 for NT).

Any more hints?
