datafile resize ?

Hi,

   Have anybody tried resizing the datafile while    it is online in a production environment ?    Is it safe to do it while there are transactions    taking place on the tables in the datafile ?    

   e.g.
    alter database datafile '/dsk1/test.dbf' 600M;
