We run a large number of 10g and 11g RAC systems with NetApp on fiber channel, and we are rolling out 11g on NFS as well. NetApp is pushing NFS on 10 gig enet as preferable to SAN / FC but most of my experience is FC. They work fine, work as advertised, and some of the NetApp software is pretty cool (Snap Manager, db cloning stuff, etc).
Seems to me that pretty much whatever EMC can do, NetApp does as well...sometimes better, often cheaper.

I don't think OEL / RHEL 6 is already supported. But if you are on linux I would go with NFS, certainly if you are using Oracle 11.1 or above. There you can use the oracle dNFS client.
When your new system will be Oracle RAC, it could be that you will need to use iscsi and ASM to store the ocr and voting disks. In 10gR2 you could have a situation where when the volume containing the OCR was not accessible, the io would wait indefinitely and not failover to the OCR mirror (due to the required mount options). I have not had a chance to test this again using 11g.

Here is the link for the best practice guide http://media.netapp.com/documents/tr-3633.pdf
I will be using either rhel 6 or oracle linux 6. And as of now I was planning on using iscsi.

Randy,
Which best practice guide are you referring to?
What will your OS be?
To which Oracle version are you migrating
Do you have NFS or FC connectivity between your new server and the
netapp?

Hi,
I am migrating a 10g data warehouse to new blade servers with netapp storage. The netapp best practice guide suggests using asm for only the cluster files, but Oracle says I should be using asm for datafiles and log files. Is anyone using NetApp with or without asm that could offer a suggestion?
Thanks
Randy
