Sandra,

Netbackup logs into a variety of log files in /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/. Your best bet to get the real reason for failure is to look in those logs.

Depending on the version of NBU, the logs for the Oracle library end up in the above directory under ./dbclient/ (on the client) or ./user_ops/dbext/logs/. Look for and tail the most recently created log files(s).

In certain cases, to make a component of NBU start logging, you must create the logging directory in order for NBU to begin logging to it.

Presumably this is covered somewhere in the NBU documentation. Good luck searching that (see previous thread on searching Veritas documentation with Google).

I need to restore my production database to a new node but I'm getting the following errors:
 

ORA-19507: failed to retrieve sequential file, handle="PRDRUBY_14478_1_611444563", parms="" ORA-27029: skgfrtrv: sbtrestore returned error ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text:
   Failed to process backup file <PRDRUBY_14478_1_611444563>
 

RHEL 4, Oracle 9.2.0.5 Standard One edition, Veritas 6.0
