Re: Increasing the size of a data file

Manav,
 The action of increasing the size of a datafile is done with the database up and running. The restrictions that you have are the storage capacity of the device you are placing the datafile on and any file size restrictions of the OS.
The addition of an additional datafile may waste space ( the free space is less that the next extent) and could possible reach the MAXDATAFILES limit.
I would recommend increasing the size before I added a new datafile where possible and if conditions permit. Ron
