I've had this issue several times on several different versions of the database/solaris (and for 8.0.6 on NT). The first time I contacted Oracle support, they said to uninstall everything and re-install. Didn't work. Then I did a re-install of everything (over top of the failed install). And, lo and behold, it worked. the same process subsequent times.

Oh, yea. Make sure you have at least 200MB more than Oracle says is needed for the install.

perfect timing for this subject....

we're building a sandbox system. The other person who'll be using the system asked that it be a Linux box, I have no hands-on Linux experience but doesn't bother me much, I mean I mostly do Unix database work anyway, it's not all that different.

So we download the Linux 9.2 files.

Tech people start to build the machine (I believe RH since that's the certified configuration on the website, I'm waiting for confirmation of that). He starts the GUI install, calls me as needed (yeah, I really DO prefer to do the installs myself but I didn't get a vote).

Calls me with errors.... the relinking of the oracle executables keeps bombing out in all the make files.

I'm at a loss -- it's not finding the .o files, I can see the compile step in the makefile, the .c files are on disk where they should be. I tried to manually compile the .c files based on what is done in the makefile, it didn't work. I have no recent (like within the last 5 years) direct experience with compiling Oracle c files.

Oh yeah, I don't have access to Metalink. I read through the install docs beforehand, did not see anything about makefile problems.

Has anyone run into something like this? Joe? I know you've done 9.2 install in Linux.

Any suggestions? I've been waiting and waiting for this system, it's frustrating that I can't get Oracle on it when we really really need it.
