Hi all,

In an attempt to figure out what happens in the temp tablespace I came across v$sort_usage. After playing around with it, I wanted to see some documentation. Then I noticed that there is documentation in the Oracle 8 docu. In documentation for 9 or 10 databases I can't found an entry for v$sort_usage.
However in oracle 9 or 10 I can still query against v$sort_usage.

My question(s): Do I look in the wrong place for documentation? or is this view deprecated?

If deprecated : Which view could I use to get information regarding temporary space usage.

This view is deprecated. It is replaced by GV$TEMPSEG_USAGE.

The view still exists, maybe a miss in the documentation.

Hm... Maybe maybe... but V$TEMPSEG_USAGE is just a synonym for... V_$SORT_USAGE

I guess that v$sort_usage isn't filled at all in ORA 9/10. It's only there for some backward-compatability

Oracle could have made an documentation entry only to tell us that the view is deprecated and will be replaced by v$tempseg_usage.

On the other hand.....it's not overly importand Smile

But I'm quite lazy (as every good admin should be Smile

I need documentation where I look for it Very Happy

I need a function in the oracle documentation like my wife has: She spots that I'm searching something. Then she tells me where I left the thingie WHITOUT asking me what I'm looking for. She just knows. This is almost always very, very handy. But sometimes ....aargh
