Hi,

I'm new to Oracle. What's the best way to duplicate a database to another machine ? Isn't it better to just backup and restore rather than use import/export ? Is RMan usefull in this case.

Is duplicating a schema the same than duplicating a database ?

yes same os, same oracle version. In fact everything must be the same because that's the purpose.

If you have the luxury of doing a cold backup of your primary database, then a straight forward method would be to do a cold backup, copy the files to your new server and start the database up on the new server.

Is it the same answer (Duplicate with RMAN) if I want to clone a schema (and not the whole database) to another machine ?

For just 1 schema I always use export/import, but that is just my preference.

with RMAN you can't clone schema for that you must use IMP/EXP
