I would like to know more about oracle database.
There are so many different types of version and it's quite confussing.

Can someone explain about this matter?

If you are working for an organisation and they use a particular version, then go to the Oracle web site, get the documentation on that version and read it.

If you are interested in working with Oracle on your own PC then get the latest version from the Oracle web site and don't worry about the old ones.

If you REALLY want to know the diferences between the various versions then search this forum, the Oracle web site, or google for 'Oracle new features'.

Is it possible to install oracle database in a personal computer?

Yes. Go to the Oracle web site http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/oracle10g/index.html and download the 10g Express Edition.

How am i able to know which one, should i download?
There are so many of them (client, clusterware, gateways...).
Is there any big difference if i download any of the release?

When I look at the web site I included in my post, there are only two downloads under 'Oracle Database 10g Express Edition'
and they are 'Oracle Database 10g Express Edition for Linux x86' and 'Oracle Database 10g Express Edition for Microsoft Windows'. Select the one that matches your hardware platform, download it, load it, and enjoy.

When I select the Windows version I go to http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/xe/htdocs/102xewinsoft.html

If you are going to work in English only, then take the Western European one (the first one), if you want to use an alternate or many languages then take the Universal one (the second one), when you want other people to access your sample applications then download and install on THEIR PC the third one (Express Client). As you are new to Oracle Databases don't worry about the silent installs, they are for installing your new application and the supporting database at your client's installation.

I can't see the keyword 'gateways' or 'clusterware' on the page I refer to above.

The Client software is...well...for the client only. This is what you would install if there is already an Oracle database server around and you want to connect to it from your client and you have no Oracle software on your pc.

The Oracle gateways are software to connect to other data sources than Oracle.

So, if you want to install a server you don't need one of those. You rather install the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 itself.

How am i able to get a copy of oracle 9i database?
I tried to download it from oracle website but it seemed like, the link does not exist.

It exists, but you weren't looking good enough. It is NOT under the "Databases" download section, but "Index" and - on the bottom of the page - Oracle 9i Database.
