Inserts, update are taking long to execute. How to tune it? [message #195292]

Based on the review or tkprof, I find that Inserts, update are taking long to execute. How to tune it? The select sqls are fast and ruuning fine, while update and insert execute is taking time.

This system has 1.7GB SGA, with 400 GB datafile size?

What are the option available to tune the inesert or update statements?

No useful information(Oracle version,stats,concerned code,execution plan etc) to start with.
Are there indexes?
HOw are you loading / inserting the data? Is this a bulk load?
What kind of tablespace is this? What about its storage parameters?

May be becuase of presence of indexes.
How are the freelists configured?

A single file of 400 gb?
How are the disks spread out? What kind of RAID?
