Hi,
I have installed ORACLE(9.2.0.4) in Linux machine(ES3). Where I have set NLS_LANG=american_america.US7ASCII in .bash_profile of user oracle.
But during database creation, WE8ISO8859P1 character set was set. When I have tried to startup the database, it shows the error- ORA-12709 ... and the database is in nomount stage (When I put 'startup' command in SQl prompt.).

You can not change the character set with doing an export/import. Comment out that line in your .bash_profile and try again.
