Hello,

I am in desperate need of help. I have Oracle 9i installed on a sparc machine running Solaris 9. Is there special instructions for upgrading from 9i to 10g? I downloaded the 10g development software from Oracle's web site. I couldn't find any documentation on upgrading the software. I am concerned that if I install the software that I downloaded that both 9i and 10g will be on the machine. I appreciate any help that anyone could give me. I am new to 10g. I have never even used it.

The first thing to check is that your O/S is at the right patch level. I've found "InstallPrep" script on metalink to be very useful for that. The 10g upgrade may check that for you though... Metalink usually has brief upgrade procedure notes if you don't want read the whole upgrade document.

Actually I see 10g uses "Validate" to check the environment (Note 283750.1).
