In the 'Experiences Installing Oracle R3 (8.1.7) for OS/390 for OSDI' redbook, it shows the Define Service Group command using MODE=LOCAL whereas the Oracle states this is not yet supported.

Could someone explain what MODE is used for and is it supported?

We run a few test OSDI regions and never use the mode parameter. As far as I'm concerned it isn't supported - that's waht the Oracle books say. If you issue an OSDI SHOW SERVICEGROUP LONG command the default appears to be *SYS.
