I had the same problem when I was attempting to
access a remote database view -- via a database
link -- on one database to another. I was able to
eliminate it by adding the code

SET TRANSACTION READ ONLY;

before my SELECT statement to the view and
add

COMMIT;

after the SELECT statement. Hope this helps!
