We are in the process of evaluating Oracle Streams for our delta detection needs to build an Operational Data Store (ODS) from an OLTP database. We have tested some basic functionality of Streams to capture/propagate and apply source database changes.

However, we have the following concerns that we need to put to rest before taking up Streams with confidence. I will appreciate anybody sharing their experiences.

(a) What kind of performance impact should we anticipate on OLTP database?
(b) Is there a possibility of losing transactions in OLTP database due to any Streams related issues?
(c) Are there any published benchmarks?
(d) Are there any thumb-rules for calculating additional memory/disk etc to set up streams?

Thanks and appreciate any help
