Hi all,
I have a 300k char long string received from the application, and have to break it down into workable chunks ( 32k).
Is there a way to do it ?


declare 
l_clob clob := '123,123,123,123,123,.........,123,'; --300k char long string
begin
dbms_lob.substr (l_clob,1,32000 ) ;
end;
/

dbms_lob.substr is a function, you are invoking it as though it were a procedure. You need to assign the returned value to a declared varchar2 variable.

I get
ORA-06550: line 2, column 18:
PLS-00172: string literal too long


I try my stuff in PL/SQL Developer.

My " '123,123,123,123,123,.........,123,'; --300k char long string" line indicates a *300k character long string*, I just spared you the experience of seeing the whole bit due to it's length,
figuring you'll get the hang of it from description in the remark.
