I have a recommendation from Application team to set NOLOGGING option for few tables.

But currently my DBA says the NOLOGGING option will over-seeded by DATAGUARD which will do FORCE LOGGING.

Please let me know whether we can set NOLOGGING option for few tables while using DATAGUARD? If so let me know the steps.

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you trust the DBA?

S/He is correct.

Besides which, it's actually quite a few hoops you must jump through to ACTUALLY get logging off, just setting nologging won't do anything.

To be accurate, the FORCE LOGGING setting will override any NOLOGGING in use. You can have Data Guard set up that does not have FORCE LOGGING. In this situation, the redo will not be transported to the standby database. This means that your data won't be there when you perform a switchover/failover operation. It is a best practice to use FORCE LOGGING, which is why your DBA has configured it that way.

How much redo generation are you talking about? Which version of Oracle are you using?

Cheers,
Brian
