Can one resize the system data files like any other datafiles?

hi

yes u can resize system tablespace. only one thing your filesystem should have large file option enabled

Warning ! Resizing a datafile can crash the database ( Metalink ! ) Do it when there is no transaction ... Take a Backup before !
