If I use Grid to create a physical standby, how does Grid copy the data to the standby server?

The live database is about 1Tb and the standby is at a different site. Does Grid compress this data at all? What mechanism does it use?

As far as I remember, you get a prompt for FTP or HTTP. I wouldn't do it like that. Use an RMAN duplicate, and instantiate the standby from a backup.
