I am getting this error when i try to create a new SID. I tried various sid but no SID generated but giving the same message.

DIM-00003: An argument is missing for the parameter

C:\>oradim -new -sid TEST100 -srvc OracleServiceTEST100 -startmode a -pfile 'd:\oracle\ora92\database\INITTEST100.ora'
DIM-00020: A service for this SID is already created. Please enter a different SID name. No action has been taken

C:\>oradim -delete -sid TEST100
DIM-00010: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\OracleService key does not exist
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.

C:\>oradim -new -sid TEST10 -srvc OracleServiceTEST100 -startmode a -pfile 'd:\oracle\ora92\database\INITTEST100.ora'
DIM-00020: A service for this SID is already created. Please enter a different SID name. No action has been taken
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.

C:\>oradim -new -sid TEST1 -srvc OracleServiceTEST100 -startmode a -pfile 'd:\oracle\ora92\database\INITTEST100.ora'
DIM-00020: A service for this SID is already created. Please enter a different SID name. No action has been taken
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.

Can any one specify any kind of solution for this problem. Should be noted that no SID named TEST100 or TEST10 or TEST1 was created earlier.None of the services exists.

Dear Michel,

This is not the real problem. I already worked with SIDs name TESTDB,Saikat etc all of them are more than 4 Character long.

can you find any other thing regarding this issue.

Thanks for your reply.

not the same 4 character. SIDs are as MYDB, TESTDB and now i intend to create a SID like TEST100. Its not created and also the Service for the SID is not also created but the same error message occured.

Yesterday I tried to create another SID like S1, which was never created earlier. But the same error occured.

Is there any problem of creating more than one/two SID in the same machine?

Basically i want to create a new DB instance say TEST100 manually. But as the SID is not created so I could not create the DB.

Thanks

saikat
