hi

i am trying to return the day of the week from a date in the mm/dd/yyyy format.
is there a function in oracle to do this ??

the day of the week
SELECT TO_CHAR(sysdate,'day') FROM dual;

the position
SELECT TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(TO_DATE('1999-03-31','yyyy-mm-dd'),'d') ) FROM dual;
