In Oracle 8.0.5 this works

create or replace function getdate
return date
is
   v_date   date;
begin
   select sysdate into v_date from dual;
   
   return (v_date);
end;
/

begin
   dbms_shared_pool.keep('getdate');
end;
/
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

But I don't know what about version 7.3.
