I do not understand your answer. Are you running Forms 6i in client/server mode (the user runs the form on their PC and connects directly to the database) or via an Application Server?

Is this a big problem? What impact does having the report server active have on your user? It will make running a second report much faster as the report server is already running.

Hm, I must admit that I didn't quite understand the situation.

There are dozen client PCs which connect to the Oracle 9i database. How do your users start the application?

double click icon on their desktops (client-server architecture), or
start internet browser, type URL (http://some_server/...) and use the application via browser (3-tier architecture)

Furthermore, it seems to be obvious that starting the very first report takes time, while the second one runs much faster (I guess the same goes for the rest of the reports). So OK, be patient in the morning and enjoy the rest of the day.

If you wish, you can place a copy of the 'Start Report Server' link in your 'Startup' directory. This means that the PC will take longer to start each morning but the first report will start as quickly as the second report.

I have never tried to stop the report server after each report. It didn't seem useful.

No, you can't run a report without the report server being active. You need it to establish the link to the database and do the data retrieval and formatting. The report is just instructions to the report server, not a fully formed stand-alone program.

For me, Report Engine is equivalent to Report Server.

In order to do that, you'll have to move the application to web (unless I'm wrong about it), i.e. use IAS which will run Forms and Reports services.

In order to learn how to do that, read the following documents: Oracle Forms Server Release 6i: Deploying Forms Applications to the Web with iAS, Reports 6i: Publishing reports.

create a shourtcut software client desktop then client always open report report engine automaticaly open i wish

I believe Rizwan (ka_wish) wants to continue running his system in client/server mode with the forms running on the workstation but would like to run the reports on the server.

Unfortunately, thsi is outside my sphere of knowledge.

Rizwan, please search the 'Reports' forum and also the 'Server' forum for assistance on how to run your reports on the server.
