Pinned buffers: buffers that are pinned (in use)
Clean buffers: buffers that are clean (not modified)
Dirty buffers: buffers that are dirty (modified)
Free buffers: buffers that are free (free)

Simple words, doesn't it?

oohh u re the BOMB! Thanks a great deal! Now i understand. Razz

So the difference betwen clean bufferes and free buffers is that, Clean buffers were used only once and free buffers havnt been used before. Right???

Clean buffers are buffers that have been dirty (modified) but have been flushed onto disk by DBWR. So there are available to be reused.
Free buffers are buffers that are not currently in use.
A clean buffer can be free (not in use, available) or pinned (in use).

Some other help please...
A table space in a database is said to be a logical storage unit which contains related logical structures.
please i need to know... what are the examples of logical structures spoken about here? extents and stuff???
