Thanks Walter for your answer. In my mind there was an intelligent parser, which always knows whether to aggregate (if there is an aggregate function) or not (if not). I don't know if it was difficult to program such an parser but the way SQL is defined you might need to write a couple of words more but at least it is clear. At least regarding the grouping. Thanks again for shedding light on the aspects you mentioned.
