Dbd is based on set theory. What set theory calls a set, dbd calls a thing. In dbd, each thing is made of 0 to many elements which themselves are things. Dbd's interface is based on Lambda Calculus. For more info see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambda_calculus

Dbd's "Natural Language Interface" is less "navigational" than RM's SQL in many cases. See examples in recent threads titled "How to find Brothers and Sisters?", "Bi-Directional Transitive Closure", "vehicle to autoparts relationships", "How to find persons who like red fruits or crunchy veggies?" and "Modelling Persons, Devices and Phone Numbers".
