Well, I was emphasising an obvious idea that database is a rule engine already. There was some noise in early 90s about deductive DBMSs, but it turned out to be a fad. Also the fact that Datalog as a query language failed while SQL was a success is very telling.
The existence of "snake oil" companies like ILOG can be explained by market size of BI space. When the market is huge it's easy to find a niche there. Received on Tue Jun 06 2006 - 22:57:22 CEST
