I think that the disconnect between you and vc is insurmountable, at least in the context of this newsgroup.

With regard to working on code that has been maintained by 10 authors before you, you've either been there, and done that, or you haven't. There is no explaining the experience.

With regard to the remaining value of billions of lines of application code, written in all kinds of languages, and the value of revising and extending it, you either see that value or you don't. There is no argument that will move a person who doesn't see that value.
