The only rule I know for seeing 5NF at a glance is that if the table is 3NF and all candidate keys are simple (one column), then you have 5NF. Ron Fagin proved that years ago and Chris date wrote it up in his old column in DBP&D under the title "Theory is Practical!" in 1992. Received on Wed Jan 05 2005 - 09:13:51 CST
