Paradox is a file server based database so it's probably not appropriate
if you want 'something better' than Access. I don't have any first hand
experience with MySQL so I can't comment on that one.
Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and Sybase are all good client-server DBMSs and can easily handle your needs. The best choice is fairly subjective and you can search Google to find may flame wars on the subject.
In my experience, Microsoft SQL Server is the easiest to use and performs very well. I have to admit I'm somewhat biased, though. I suggest you download the eval versions of the databases and kick the tires.
