You have made a correct observation.
Your keen observations are extremely helpful. The above sentences don't make sense.

I have come to realize my definitions of class and instance are not accurate, but I believe the object model is.

Please bear with me, as I will now propose that the object is the foundation of even a relation, but mapping my thoughts to relational and current oo terminology is not perfect yet.
