Key issues for middleware and databases

I really could do with some help here :)

I have to make a presentation titled

"Key issues when developing databases and middleware for the Web"

I am a graduate with no real-world experience with the theory of databases and web but nothing in relation to development of middleware and databases for the web.

Can anyone please give me a hand here :) I would be eternally grateful.
