I've read both and they are both worthwhile, but are not where I would recommend that you begin reading about replication. If you want to know about commercial implementations of replication, I recommend reading Data Replication: Tools and Techniques for Managing Distributed Information by Marie Buretta, or searching vendor Web sites (such as for IBM's DB2 or Oracle). If you want an academic introduction to replication, you can generally find a brief overview in any good database theory book, but for a book dedicated to replication, I recommend Replication Techniques in Distributed Systems by Helal, Heddaya, and Bhargava. You can also search the ACM or IEEE sites for current research papers on replication, but you'll probably have to pay to download the PDF.
