YES .. it's called "WHAT Not HOW" ISBN 0-201-70850-7 It has a section on drawbacks but what I'm missing are the effects that you face when you have large amounts of rules (like 10,000 ++)
There have been such systems (in Prolog - for medical examinations in life insurance) and I had the fun of talking to the people who had to try to test them 6000 Prolog Rules ... very nice effects ;-)
Maybe the proponents of this approach should talk to a few guys who tried to build such systems about their experiences with declarative systems containing a few thousand rules .. no modularization to be seen Received on Thu Aug 23 2001 - 12:46:26 CEST
