for those planning to attend, arthur whitney's reports on kdb work in progress can be found in the archives of the kdb mailing list at www.kx.com.

kdb downloads and installs in a few seconds. kx's website contains lots of ready-to-run examples.

e.g. here is tcpd in both sql92 and ksql (both languages are supported by kdb):
