Autonomy is chiefly interesting because of its approach to information. It apparently has as a mix and match (or hybrid) selection of AI/statistical technologies, whereas most corps tend to specialise/concentrate on one technology, for examples CA's neural net thingies, Neugents. It may look like a single uber technology, but that's only because they've done a good job on 'productising' and uniform presentation of their goods.

Primarily they perform text analysis of work flow documents in an organisation. There are very few if any new ideas in Autonomy technology, but they seem to have a superlative string and glue job with these ideas, for that they deserve a lot of credit. And the string and glue approach fits well with my own opinions on artificial intelligence ;) However, I sincerely doubt they're the last word on context (npi).
