I'll lurk on comp.databases for a while to see if generic database design questions surface there. Good tip.

comp.databases.theory is also a good lead. In fact, I proposed this newsgroup over there, initially. At least two or three of the regulars gave a positive comment.

There are two kinds of threads that surface repeatedly in comp.databases.theory:

One is the fairly standard generic design question, covering a broad range of depth.

The other is an ongoing discussion of how a Relational DBMS should work, if one were to be built that really conformed to the relational data model. This second topic is really about the theory of DBMS construction, rather than the theory of Database construction.

That's what got me started thinking along the lines of a new newsgroup. But it's possible that the need isn't really there. That's what I'm exploring now.
