Oracle doesn't "suck".
You have to invest a whole lot of time in it. Like I did.

Oracle is the most platform independent db today (excecpt mySql). It runs on any flavour of Unix (and linux), Windows NT, even on 95 & 98 (the personal db).

So it has to cover many platforms with major portability. So it isn't easy to assimilate all this knowledge.

You also have to decide what kind of part of Oracle you like & specialize in this:

Dba, Oracle Net specialist, Web Configuration (plsql), developer, .....

And please, do not start a flame war.
