Oracle's running databases can only be consitently backuped using RMAN or settting one tablespace after the other in backup mode.
my suggestion is that you database files cntl and system tablespaces are out of sync
can you still mount the database and then issue recover database cmd?
at Chris Rea's Web site you can find some backup unix scripts
