Thank you all for your suggetions. I do know vi and how to navigate SUN for the most part with my previous experience with Redhat and FreeBSD, but Orace on SPARC is new to me and just looking for some pointers. Thank you both for your suggestions and concerns, I have assured there is now a /etc directory and that the software vendor implementing the Reporting Solution using Oracle approves the system setup, I just wish they had a SOP to follow for stand-alone systems using their solution, rather than relying on the end user to dicate the machine setup ... you would think that since they wrote the software and tested in thier labs, they would know best the optimal system layout.
