Oracle versions

Hello,

I have to migrate an Oracle server from 8.06 to 8.17.

My provider told me that I have to change my Oracle clients.

Do you know if I have to do it ? And if yes, is it possible to make the clients migration before ? I mean, do you know if a Oracle Client 8.17 can access correctly to an Oracle Server 8.06 ?
