hi group.

we are using a 9iDS Rel2 installation in a three tier setup for forms deployment

the database servers run debian linux (woody) and sun solaris, the forms server and the clients run debain woody. the clients use appletviewer to display the forms (i have tried 1.3 and 1.4 from sun, ibm, blackdown and the one that came with the oracle installation)

when there is only one client connected to the forms server it appears to be working finely but if there are more that one connection, or if this connection is heavily loaded the client will hang quite frequently. the status indicator in the right lower edge of the applte will move side to side forever but the connection is dead and times out.
this is pretty annoying because all info that has not been commited until then is lost. :(

in the servers working directory where the forms reside i get dumpfiles with the following contents:

[Fri Jan 17 07:41:39 2003 CET]::Client Status [ConnId=0, PID=21642]

>> Network connection to client failed: timeout on connection
Possible causes include a network failure or client termination

the only thing common to probably all hangs is, that it only seems to happen in fields with numbers....i dont know if this can be a clue. i actually still believe the problem is either client related or something else is terribly wrong here. i have double and triple checked the network connection (works fine with the 6i client installation but that version is very bad to use on linux clients).

we do really want to use that 3 tier setup but it _has_ to be stable since we ar dealing with quite a lot of data.

any hints would be greatly appreciated
