data migration question

Hi All,

I have to migrate data from an older instance to 9i. As part of this process, I am thinking of shrinking the sizes of some columns (currently allocated at 2K will be reduced to 128B).

Can I use export/import mechanism import into 9i ?. I will make sure that the resized columns will accomodate existing data. Will this cause an problem during import ?. Will the import script notice that the column has been shrunk (although data fits) and gives an error ? What if I decide to drop a column in the new instance ?

Another thing, I want to use partitions in the new instance, the old database does not have it. Will this cause any problem ?. I will create the table first and them import the rows.
