Oracle 8.1.6 ODBC and MS Access 97

I am having a problem getting MS Access97 to function against an
Oracle 8.1.6
database using Oracle's supplied ODBC drivers.
Our clients are MS NT v4 with SP 6a. The MS Office is Office 97 SP2.
This works perfectly connecting to Oracle 7, but the Access goes to
"Not Responding" in the task list when trying to attach to Oracle 8.
Anyone know of any other drivers to use for Access 97 and Oracle 8 ?
