Oracle + Veritas Backup = DEATH

I'm not sure if this post belongs here, but I'm going to post it anyway:
I have an Oracle 8i database server on a WINNT 4.0 server. I use Veritas Netbackup to back it up. However, it tickles Oracle, and Oracle decides it won't play anymore, and I have to reboot the server. Restarting the services that are Oracle doesn' help the situation, it requires a reboot.
Has anyone had this problem? Has anyone solved it? Am I just crazy?
