Need of memory on AIX vs Solaris

Has anyone experience of the need of real memory on AIX and Solaris on Oracle 8.1(.6). We have 512 MB on each machines. We have heavy paging and bad response times on Solaris. Does SUN Solaris require more real memory than IBM AIX?

Any suggsetions of configuration parameters is appreciated.
